Bean Watches: The Marvels (2023)

Hello all and welcome back to another film review!

Today's review is of the latest cinematic installment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Marvel's! I hope that this review is as spoiler-free as possible, so let's dive into it!

The Marvel's released on the 10th of November 2023 in cinemas for the fans of the MCU to enjoy. The basic plot is that Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau all team up to after their powers cause them to start switching places with everyone each time they use their powers.

The cast of the film include Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, as well as Samuel L. Jackson and Zawe Ashton. I thought that the VFX in this film were superb and that the film fit in okay with the universe. In order to understand the plot, you don't need to watch all the MCU things in the run-up. Watching Captain Marvel, Wandavision and Ms. Marvel may help you understand things, but it's entertaining nonetheless.

The Good: The film, costumes and soundtracks were top tier. I loved how they incorporate pop music and even hints of Bollywood style music into the film, which made it much more enjoyable. As I always say, the music helps make the film!

The Bad: I do feel like the film had a lot of waffle. Don't get me wrong it was entertaining, and it was nice to be reunited with our favourite characters (like Goose the Cat), but I do feel like the story could've been cut down a bit, to keep the audience interest.

Overall, I would like to rate the film a 4 beans out of 5. I would love to see where the MCU goes from here, but I can see why this film underperformed at the box office. I do think that one of the contributions to that though was down to not having enough marketing to it. I would recommend seeing it if you have a chance, but also wait for it to come to Disney+ if you're not too sure.

That's it for this short, but sweet blog post! I hope you enjoyed it. Have you seen The Marvels? What did you think? How do you think the MCU is going to progress from here? Let me know in the comments your thoughts!

Until next time,

Sadie
